Christmas Music

How do you feel about it? As a guitarist, this is one of my biggest pet peeves (and a very funny song)..

Re: Christmas Music

Now that he's mentioned it...SO TRUE!!! Very frustrating when you're in the mood to play Christmas songs and you see the chords. :\

Re: Christmas Music

I wonder why my dad tried to teach me to play "Silent Night" first.

Re: Christmas Music

I don't play guitar, and the fancy chords aren't any harder on a piano, so I don't have a problem with this. :P

But this is only true of the newer Christmas songs anyway. The old traditional hymns (like Silent Night) are often almost absurdly simple.

They're actually often a bit deceptive. Stuff like O Holy Night, O Come O Come Emmanuel, O Little Town Of Bethlehem (they all start with O, but that's just random I'm sure).. they all sound simple but are brutal for a guitarist.

It all depends on your ability or the lack thereof. :P

Re: Christmas Music

I actually found a couple good Christmas Playlists on tumblr a few days ago. You can download them or just youtube them, but this guy has quite a good variety. :)

Re: Christmas Music

There's a reason that my mum gave me the tip that you can often ignore, for the sake of simplicity, any 7ths if there's also a minor there, when I was learning christmas songs :P

I got quite good at a couple at one point, but christmas songs have had my left hand in all sorts of funky positions :P I then lost my xmas songbook (found it a couple of weeks ago though) so I lost them all because I forgot the chords... I can still play the tunes! :flail:
